In pre-WWII America, Katie Morosky (Streisand) is a politically active woman who meets Hubbell Gardiner (Redford) an aspiring screenwriter. Years later they rekindle their college relationship years later and move to Hollywood. On opposite ends of the political spectrum, Katie's activism threatens her husband's reputation. Will genuine friendship and physical attraction is not enough to overcome fundamental societal beliefs?
