The show will share his case study project of experimental case study houses in the Bavarian Town of Bad Aibling which he has authored together with TUM Professor Architekt Florian Nagler and which have become a pioneer in his movement of 'Eintach Bauen / Build Simple.' While the interested public in Hawaii had the chance to have had Professor Auer lecture about it as part of the UHM School of Architecture students having toured it as part of the inaugural 2025 exchange every fall with TUM and Thomas Auer and Bilge Kobas. The students took home to Hawaii from it how to essentialize much more based on their much more moderate tropical climate and consequently prefer weightlessness over weightfulness tectonic tensegrity over stereotomic gravity.

The takeaway was: SHIFT is proposing that both the USA and Europe as a leading part of the Northern Hemisphere with a too large environmental footprint are relearning from the Southern Hemisphere with a significant smaller burden. Hawaii playing a strategic role as climatically part of the Global South however having to unlearn its Global North attitude. The emerging generation of TUM, UHM, Technical University of Valencia and more to come are prototyping a revised architectural pedagogy back into the future of a people and planet friendly paradigm.
