In this part, I had started shading in some details of Lara's hair, skin, shadows, gun, clothing and backpack. It is always a relief once the facial features are locked in, because making a mess of this means that the focal point of the entire drawing is ruined 😆 I used a B6 to lock in the outlines and initial shading, then a softer, B12 pencil to add the darkest highlights and blending in softly.
You can blend a softer, darker gradient over a harder, lighter pencil shade, but it isn't easy doing it the other way round. It is possible to shade and overlap tones to create a subtle, seemless gradient, but I am lazy and utilise blending stumps to do the hard work for me 😂 If I was going for photo-realism, then I would used the former technique.
Anyway, I hope you like this drawing so far, and please let me know if you are also excited for the launch of Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis (a complete remake of the 1996 adventure). The trailers look amazing! 😍
