From a childhood marked by crime and repeated stints in youth borstals, Pepi's path led him to a fatal moment at just 22 years old — one that would cost him 27 years behind bars.

In this interview, Pepi tells the full story behind the killing. A fallout following a robbery spiralled into extreme violence when his former friend Alvin stabbed him 17 times with an ice pick, leaving Pepi clinically dead twice in hospital. Against all odds, he survived — and refused to name his attacker.

Years later, fate brought them face-to-face again in a nightclub. An argument. A pool cue raised. A single stab with a small pen knife. One artery hit. Alvin ran from the club — and by morning, Pepi learned from the TV news that a murder enquiry had begun.

Pepi didn’t serve his sentence quietly. He fought the system, endured eight years in solitary confinement, and witnessed some of the most extreme realities of prison life. He never broke.

This is not a story that excuses violence — it’s a story about how adolescent mistakes can carry lifelong consequences, about survival, resilience, and the huge price paid for by a single mistake.

Now free since 2009, Pepi reflects on who he was, who he became, and the lessons learned the hardest way possible.
