To celebrate return to traffic of GWR 14XX 0-4-2T 1450, we take a look back through the archives at the timeless scene of the locomotive paired with a GWR auto coach between 2016 - 201working on both the West Somerset Railway and the Severn Valley Railway, wearing both it’s British Railways guise and GWR livery
The locomotive was withdrawn from traffic in December 2020 at the expiry of its boiler certificate. The owner made arrangements to send it for overhaul at the Flour Mill in the Forest of Dean and it left on 4 August 2021. The boiler passed its tests during Summer 2024, with new slide valves completed at Bridgnorth. 1450 triumphantly returned to traffic last weekend during the Avon Valley Railways End of Season Gala, and will continue testing before appearing at the Severn Valley next year!
