Big thanks to Arteza for sending me some of their products to try out! I chose the 24 pack of Premium Oil Colors, their 16x20in stretched canvas, 5x7in canvas panels, and the miniature paint brush set.
-Oil paint: Right out of the tube the paints have a really nice creamy consistency. they're really creamy and spread nicely. a few of the colors were a little oily; most noticeably the burnt umber. this didn't really bother me too much but did make it a little difficult to get an even layer of that color. just like the gouache, the colors are super bright and vibrant. they came in a set of 24 and were listed for 26.99 when I ordered mine. the colors included were pretty nice but personally I didn't see the need for the gold and silver. I probably would have been just as happy with an 18 tube set. for transparency each tube is labeled with a square to show how opaque they are. empty square for transparent, half filled square for semi opaque, and filled in square for opaque colors. the pigments used are also listed. for lightfastness all but 2 of the tubes are marked with +++. as far as drying time it feel like it was really slow but keep in mind I'm use to working with watercolors and gouache. it took 3 days for my swatches to dry, a few were dry after the second day but just to be safe I waited 3 days in between all layers. because of the slow drying time and the paints consistency blending was really easy. I started blending right away while doing my swatches and even though I had almost not experience with oils it was pretty easy to blend each color out to white. the tubes are pretty sturdy so I don't think ill accidentally break any open. I don't love the little color label strips at the top of the tubes, I'm a little worried that they could fall of some day. I also don't really like the lids but I haven't noticed any leaking or anything I just feel like they might be a little difficult to open in the future.
-Canvas: the 16x20in canvas' came in a pack of 6 for 33.41 when I ordered. which makes them a little less than $6 a piece which seems really cheap. they're made out of 8oz cotton canvas primed with acid free acrylic gesso. the listing says they're made for light paint applications, practice and studies and I think they're perfectly suited for that. the 5x7in canvas panels came in a pack of 14 and were 12.87 which is about $0.92 each. they're also 8oz primed cotton canvas. both had a really nice texture to paint on felt really sturdy.
-Brushes: they came in a set of 15 and were listed for $14.54. first I want to mention that the listing says 5 liners, 5 rounds, and 5 flats. thats not what I got. instead of 5 flats I got 5 "spot"s personally I would have rather have the flats. the bristles are firm and spring back well though and none have fallen out while painting. I've been using them for about month with watercolors, gouache, and oil and so far they're holding up really well against my abuse. there are a few strap bristles and I don't think they'll last as long as my artist loft ones have (two years) but these are cheaper, come in smaller sizes, and in a bigger pack. besides the bristles they feel like much better quality. the handles have a really thick coat of paint and feel really nice. for some reason the handles are pretty short though probably about at least 1/2 inch shorter than all of the other brushes I own. not a bad thing but something I noticed right away. I really love the liners especially. and ill probably keep using all of the brushes for as long as I can.
Overall I really like everything that was sent to me and I'm excited to work on more oil stuff in the future. thanks again to arteza for working with me and so many other artists ❤️
