Hey, I'm Mitch! Welcome to Big Skies, Big Year, a year‑long birding project where I attempt to see (and capture) as many bird species as possible across one province, one calendar year, and some of the most underrated birding hotspots in Canada.

In Episode 1, I’m kicking things off by explaining what a Big Year actually is, why I chose Saskatchewan as the setting, and how this series will unfold over the seasons. This project is about more than chasing checklists. It’s about showing off Saskatchewan and the birds that thrive here.

Along the way, I’ll be learning in real time, building his list, meeting local birders and discovering just how wild (and humbling) a Big Year can be.
