Pheidole are one of the most diverse ant genera. An incredibly successful genus, especially in the tropics. Some species are invasive in several parts of the world (e.g., P. megacephala, P. indica). The footage shows a queen and several workers making their way away from a nest - I originally thought this might even be fleeing because of a raid initially but there were no signs of battle. I think this might instead be an example of colony budding. This involves a young queen emerging from the source nest with some workers to begin a new nest nearby. Several species of Pheidole use this as a way of colony reproduction. We also see some interactions at food resources and general foraging behaviour!
This video was filmed in Lao Cai Province, Vietnam, in the foothills of Fansipan.
