After the fall of Saipan in 1945, the U.S. military set up a B-29 base on Saipan and conducted air raids on Tokyo. In early December 1945, an airborne special attack team selected from the 1st Parachute Brigade (currently the Parachute Corps) was formed at this U.S. military base with the purpose of forcing a landing, destroying the plane. It was called the Giretsu Airborne Corps.
Volunteer Airborne Corps is the name of a unit formed from selected personnel from the 4th Company of the 1st Parachute Regiment, Army Middle School Intelligence personnel, and the 3rd Independent Squadron.
However, it was not used against Saipan, and the attack on Iwo Jima was also cancelled. Finally, on May 24, 1945, during the Okinawa attack operation it was used for forced landings (kamikaze) at Yomitan Airfield and Kadena Airfield.
