CAN A CONVICTION IN MY HOME COUNTRY PREVENT IMMIGRATION TO THE U.S.?
A conviction in your home country could preclude you from being able to immigrate to the U.S. The USCIS will look at whether the crime you committed in your own country has a similar counterpart in the U.S. under federal or law in Washington D.C. As a general rule, people convicted overseas of any of the following will probably be denied a green card to the U.S.:
-drug trafficking
-kidnapping
-prostitution
-human trafficking
-profiting financially from a family member's human trafficking (with the exception for children of the trafficker)
-money laundering
-multiple convictions with a aggregate sentence of at least 5 years.
