In this video, I assemble the four pieces of the glass door frame then mount them onto the plastic shower walls. It seems like this should be a simple task, but as you will see in this video, I struggle with following the written and video instructions resulting in several modifications to make this work for my situation. Like in my previous videos, I kept my awkward efforts to help you avoid such pitfalls during your installation. Notice that I have abandoned describing this installation process in “steps,” which infers that this is a simple, well-designed procedure. My experience with this installation is far from being simple, as revealed in all my MAAX Cyrene Corner Shower Kit installation videos.
IMPORTANT! Assembling the two plastic shower walls according to the written and video instructions like I attempted to do failed! If you are about to assemble these two flimsy plastic shower walls, watch my video titled: “How I assembled the two plastic MAAX Cyrene shower walls.”
The plastic walls are much too thin and flimsy, and the seams do not lay flat even after connecting them together with the provided six nuts and bolts as described in the instructions. When Diane and I picked up the assembled walls after allowing the silicon caulk to dry for more than 24 hours and gently moved the assembly into place, the caulk separated! The MAAX installation video is misleading because the installation site was in the corner of a wide, bare, open finished room, which does not represent the much smaller size and tight location of our bathroom with the toilet and vanity already installed. Had we had this much room for a shower, we certainly would not have purchased a very small, 34-inch curved corner shower kit. But at this point, I had no alternative other than to figure out a way to make this chintzy shower kit work!
Background:
After weeks of research, Diane and I could not find a contractor willing to assemble and install the corner shower kit in our new garage bathroom. It was with boundless reluctance and great trepidation that I did it myself, with Diane’s assistance when two people were needed. This is the first of a series of videos that I will be posting of this rather complicated process, including several of my custom modifications including adding additional shower framing, using aluminum angle strips to augment the attachment of the two flimsy plastic walls and other adjustments.
Except for the installation of the shower kit, our garage conversion to living space is finished! I kept a spreadsheet of all expenses, and this was the total cost of this project: $50,913.86
