The United States is deploying roughly 2,500 Marines aboard up to three amphibious warships from the Indo-Pacific toward the Middle East as fighting with Iran enters a more uncertain phase.

The move adds a mobile expeditionary force to the more than 50,000 U.S. troops already in the region while Washington evaluates Iran’s response to nearly two weeks of joint U.S. and Israeli air and long-range strike operations.
