British Petroleum, one of the world’s leading global energy giants, has partnered with Corteva, an American agriculture company with a global footprint, to launch a new joint venture called Etlas. The venture will produce crop based oils for sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel, using crops such as canola, mustard, and sunflower. Etlas brings together bp’s refining and fuel marketing expertise with Corteva’s advanced seed innovation capabilities.
Etlas plans to deliver one million tonnes of feedstock annually by the mid 2030s, enough to produce more than 800 thousand tonnes of biofuel. Initial supply is set to begin in 2027, supporting both refinery co processing and dedicated biofuel plants.
With global demand for sustainable aviation fuel projected to rise from 1 million tonnes in 2024 to 10 million tonnes by 2030, Etlas aims to become a major, scalable supplier. The crops will be grown between food growing seasons, improving soil health and creating new revenue opportunities for farmers without requiring additional land.
Etlas positions agriculture and energy side by side to help meet the world’s rising need for low carbon fuels.
