Kanakadhara Stotram is a powerful Sanskrit hymn composed by Adi Shankaracharya, one of the greatest Indian philosophers and spiritual masters. It is a prayer dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth, prosperity, and fortune.

🌼 Origin of Kanakadhara Stotram:
The story behind its composition is both touching and miraculous:

When young Adi Shankara was a Brahmachari (celibate student), he went door-to-door for alms (bhiksha) as per tradition. At one poor house, a woman had nothing to offer him except a single amla fruit (Indian gooseberry), which she gave with immense devotion.

Shankara was moved by her sincerity and poverty. He instantly composed 21 shlokas (verses) in praise of Goddess Lakshmi. Touched by his compassion and poetic devotion, Goddess Lakshmi appeared and showered golden gooseberries (kanaka = gold, dhara = flow) on the woman's house — hence the name Kanakadhara.

"I bow to the goddess Lakshmi, whose beautiful form is seated on a lotus, who blesses devotees with wealth and prosperity, and whose glances are as gentle and affectionate as a bee caressing a lotus flower."
