(5 Jun 2019) Muslims across Bangladesh celebrated the start of the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Fitr, a time for family and festivities.
Heavy rains Wednesday in Dhaka prevented some from offering Eid prayers outdoors so many flocked into the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.
Shopkeeper Abdul Jalil said he prayed for his family, those who have died and for peace in his country.
The holiday marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, when devout Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset.
As in previous years, the Muslim world was split on when the start of Eid is, as it's based on sightings of the new moon.
