An interview with Dr. Louise M. Cohen 6-6-2023 by Donovan Carter, Gabrielle Hurd, and Robert Smalls, Jr.
Dr. Cohen is the great-great granddaughter of Cesar Kirk Jones and Moriah Jones, who escaped to freedom across the water in a flat bottomed boat.
Dr. Cohen is also the great-great granddaughter of William Simmons, who escaped slavery to join the Union army and purchased the land Dr.Cohen grew up on.
