1) Swim only In area supervised by a lifeguard. If in your own pool use a 1:1 ratio between child and supervisor.
2) Ensure as the instructor you are Water Competent and can perform the 5 Basic Water Safety Skills
3) Provide close and constant attention to your swimmer, avoiding any distractions
4) Never leave a child unattended and do not trust a child's life to another child.
5) Use USCG Life Jackets for children who lack water competency, or when other layers of protection are not in place.
