Where and How to Farm Platinum Ingot and Trapezohedron

Platinum Ingot is a valuable component that be sold as a premium for 150,000 Gil and Trapezohedron is required to upgrade your weapons to Tier 3, which is the ultimate weapon for each of your party members.

This video will show you how to farm for Platinum Ingot and Trapezohedron and also how to kill Adamantoise using the Death trick. This can be done as soon as you defeated Barthandelus at Oerba during Chapter 11 and unlock Stage 9 Crystarium to have Vanille learn Death in her Saboteur role.

This method is kinda low and cheap but it is the only way if you want to farm for the following components at this point of time. Though the Adamantoise can be defeated with Stage 8 Crystarium without "Death" method, it will require even more farming which will take a lot of gil and time.

You will need to use Vanille as the leader and manually cast Death. Make sure you have at least 3 TP before engaging the turtle. Use summon right at the beginning of the battle and Hecatoncheir will disable the Adamantoise's legs. Keep spamming Death afterward till its killed. If you can't kill it before it stands up, just select retry. Death spell has only 1% success rate.

Due to Death is not classified as a debuffing spell, its chances to kill cannot be boosted by equipping Vanille with Belladonna or Malboro Wands, nor can its success rate be improved with Faith or high chain bonus.

However, Death's success rate can be improved by:
Having Vanille at Level 5 in her Saboteur role.
Having other Saboteurs in the current battle formation, the higher the level the better.
Inflicting the Adamantoise with as many debuffs as possible.

You can easily top up your TP by heading to the nearby spot where you can find 4 Flans camping there, they can easily be killed with Firaga. Respawn them by going up the small cliff and back again. With Energy Sash equipped, you only require 3 battles to get back 3 TP for the summon. It is better to save your game and then reload the save to spawn the turtle again. This is because if the Adamantoise doesn't drop anything, you can just reload without having to farm for TP again.
