There are some songs within Elvis’ back catalogue, often through coincidence rather than design, which have found themselves in pivitol or significant places. I Got Stung is one such example as it was the final song recorded during Elvis’ last pre-army recording session, although technically he was already enlisted at this juncture.
Elvis’ final recording session of the fifties yielded five songs from within RCA’s Studio B in Nashville on 10 June 1958. None of the five were ballad, all rock ‘n’ roll and all at a medium to fast tempo and almost none of the songs were completed quickly. Testament to this is that this song was completed in twenty four exhausting tapes, which included eight complete takes – surely a search fr perfection.
Given that this was the final song of five, Elvis and the band must have been exhausted, vocally and mentally, as they departed the studio around 5am on that Wednesday morning.
As with all of these videos, to get the most out of the re-edited audio, I highly recommend you use ear /headphones and turn the volume up as much as you dare!
