En Los Trigales-Joaquín Rodrigo (Keith Rodriguez, guitar)

Описание: One of my favourite guitar pieces by the amazing Joaquín Rodrigo, En Los Trigales is a decisive piece for me as a classical guitarist. I first heard it on a Julian Bream LP of Spanish guitar music and I was captivated by the rhythm and clarity of his sound. As a result, I was greatly influenced to reproduce that sound by my preference for spruce top instrumets, as well as my fondness for traditionally built guitars in the Torres/Hauser tradition.

The beginning theme is thought to be inspired by the lively Jota dance, a reference to the composer's affinity with the Castilla Leon province. It is full of the alternating 3/4 6/8 hemiola rhythm, so characteristic in Spanish music, as well as a slower middle section in which rich chords and artificial harmonics evoke church bells in the distance which could be heard from the wheat fields described in the piece's title.

This was the last piece I recorded during my first run of videos during July 2021 at the Iglesia Santa María La Mayor in Alcalá de Henares, Spain. It took a while before finding my comfort zone, but I remember feeling great inspiration and a sense of flowing ease in the late hours of the night. The darkness of the church and the amazing acoustics helped play a part in the inspiration I was feeling while making the recording.
