I just got into it with Elon on X about his universal high income prediction and honestly this conversation is keeping me up at night, right? He says there will be no poverty, no need to save money, everyone gets abundant resources, but I pushed back on something nobody's really talking about.

Elon posted that robots and AI will solve scarcity — building any house you want, instant transportation, everything abundant. But I asked the obvious question: what about prime real estate? If money becomes worthless, how do we decide who gets actual Malibu, not some bot-built copy?

This is about positional goods — stuff that can't be replicated. You can't make another Malibu coast or duplicate the one penthouse at the top of a building. Technology solves physical scarcity but not the scarcity of authentic places that actually exist.

Elon's counter: location doesn't matter if transportation is instant and free. Boring Company tunnels, electric aircraft, point-to-point Starship travel. If you can get anywhere in minutes, does prime real estate matter? Maybe. But I'm not convinced that solves humans caring about status, exclusivity, and being at the real thing.

The dark question: what replaces money for trading scarce assets? A reputation economy? AI algorithms deciding who deserves what? Whoever controls the biggest robot army? This transition could freeze current ownership forever — Malibu owners today might own it eternally when money stops working.

The question isn't can we build utopia, it's can human nature handle it? Are we compatible with a world where we don't struggle for anything? This transition period is going to be brutal. We need to watch when labor costs equal robot costs, when energy becomes free, and especially legislative battles over land rights. That's where the real fight begins.
