This 5k PARKRUN is where my running journey BEGAN | Braunstone, Leicester

Описание: Welcome to my VLOG capturing my return to Braunstone Parkrun in Leicester for the first time in two years, and first time since launching this channel on a glorious Saturday morning in May 2024.

Today was my 161st Parkrun and my 35th at Braunstone. This location is where both my Parkrun journey and my running journey began back in February 2013 and I was hooked. For a few years it was the only Parkrun in Leicester and I ran here most weeks. As more Parkruns started across the wider city, first in Victoria Park and then later in Watermead and Abbey Park that were more local to me, I didn't visit Braunstone as often.

I set a 5k PB at Braunstone back in 2015 that stood for seven years. I forgot what a stunning park this is, especially in the sunshine.

The course here is two laps around the park with slight variations between laps. It is run predominantly on asphalt but there is a short 'trial' section as you run uphill to complete the first lap before starting the second lap. You begin and end on grass.

The park is located on the outskirts of Leicester, reasonably close to J21 of the M1 and the Leicester end of the M69.

The facilities here include free parking at the Braunstone Leisure Centre, there are no public toilets within the park itself, but as an Active Leicester member I was able to use the facilities within Braunstone Leisure Centre.

The start of the Parkrun is about a 5 minute walk from the sports centre car park. There is a mobile coffee van where the briefing takes place, close to the finish funnel
