Spending some time today shooting the Wildey Survivor pistol in .45 Winchester Magnum.
This handgun is the first gas, double/single action blow back operated handgun ever made and was designed by Wildey J. Moore in 1973. It was made to handle some Wildey's proprietary cartridges and could handle pressures in excess of 48,000 PSI along with an adjustable gas system that allowed it to handle high pressure cartridges from 9mm Win Mag to .475 Wildey Magnum. The beauty of the adjustable gas system is that you are able to fine tune the gas based on the round used and the pressure required to allow it to cycle properly.
The barrels on the gun range from 5" to 18" based on needs and the gun found huge success in the hunting world after the release of the 1985 film "Death Wish" featuring Charles Bronson, who used this gun exclusively throughout the movie. The release of the movie actually helped put a struggling Wildey business back on the map and allowed it to continue to enjoy relatively consistent sales until they closed their doors in 2015.
