I love finding alternative materials to add to my toolbox of tricks for mixed media. This week we will use vinyl floor tiles. They come in different colors and most have some textures. I am using the 12" x 12" floor tile.
Acrylic paints stay on the tiles and you can even glue them onto a piece of plywood to mount or frame.

SUPPLIES
Vinyl tile
Sandpaper fine grit-optional
Brushes
Palette knife
Pencil
Scissors
Paint colors - Payne's Grey, Sepia, Titanium White, cobalt Teal
Lyra Graphite Crayon
Wax or Grease pencil - I used red

I lightly sand the surface prior to painting but this step is optional. If you do sand use a fine grit sandpaper like 500 grit.

Sketch out a design on the tile using your pencil.
Apply paint using a brush or a knife. If the brush has water on it the paint will want to bead up. If you like this effect let the paint dry sufficiently before painting on top.
Paint as desired and let dry.
Use a Lyra Graphite Crayon to add mark making lines. If you add some water, you can get the graphite to blend.
I used a wax pencil to add non water-soluble lines.
You can scratch into the surface with a sharp tool to make marks and then rub heavy body paint into the cuts, wipe away extra and you will see the paint in the cuts.
You may even use scissors to cut pieces of the tile to add to the surface.

Framing possibilities:
Can be mounted onto wood panel, I show a piece of plywood. I recommend adding additional adhesive when mounting.
