Описание: The island of Montecristo is located in the Tyrrhenian Sea and is part of the Tuscan archipelago. Administratively it is included in the municipality of Portoferraio and therefore in the province of Livorno. The island is one of the 149 protected areas managed by the Carabinieri Command for the Protection of Biodiversity and Parks, it is included in the complex of State Nature Reserves entrusted to the Carabinieri Biodiversity Department of Follonica and is part of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park. Montecristo is located south of the island of Elba, west of the island of Giglio and Monte Argentario, southeast of the island of Pianosa and east of the outcropping Scoglio d'Africa, also known as Africhella and Formica di Monte Cristo. The island, which originated from the uplift of a submarine pluton, is entirely mountainous with various rocky protrusions overlooking the sea and consists almost exclusively of granodiorite with large crystals of orthoclase; it is no coincidence that in the ancient pilot books, Monte Cristo is compared to "a mountain as high as a pointed diamond". Even the island of Montecristo, like all the islands of the archipelago, has a mild climate, constantly windy and very sunny with low rainfall (annual average values well below 500 mm), characterized by winters that are never too cold and summers with moderate heat but not stuffy.
