As temperatures soared to nearly 40 degrees celsius (104 degrees fahrenheit) in Rome, animals at the city's zoo on Wednesday (13 JULY 2016) were fed ice blocks filled with food to help keep them cool.
The tigers, bears, lemurs, chimpanzees and macaques at the 'Bioparco di Roma' zoo enjoyed the icy treats, which zookeepers say help them to release heat from their bodies in the warm weather.
The zoo was inaugurated in 1911 and contains more than 200 species and 1100 animals.
