Описание: Day 5 – Charters Towers to Cairns | 481 km

Day 5 starts with a damp pack-up after camping in the rain at Charters Towers. Under gloomy skies, the crew heads east toward Townsville, determined to make Cairns by nightfall.

Our first major stop is Townsville, where we climb up to Castle Hill Lookout for sweeping views over the city and coastline. Even with the cloud cover, it’s an impressive sight and a great way to kick off the day’s ride.

Next, we swing by the local Harley-Davidson dealership to sort out Krusty’s broken drive belt. The workshop agrees to take the bike in, with parts being sent ahead to Cairns. Krusty will return tomorrow to collect it once repaired. In a huge act of generosity, the dealership owner loans Krusty a new Road Glide overnight, making sure he can still ride into Cairns with the rest of the crew instead of sitting in the support vehicle. An absolute legend move and one of those moments that really sticks with you on a trip like this.

Back on the road, we make a lunch stop at the Frosty Mango, a FNQ favourite for cool drinks, fresh fruit, and a break from the humidity.

Further north, we roll into Tully for a well-earned beer stop. This rural town in the Cassowary Coast Region is famous for being one of the wettest towns in Australia and home to the 7.9-metre Golden Gumboot. Surrounded by sugar cane and banana farms, Tully is one of the region’s larger agricultural centres and a classic north-Queensland stop.

From there, it’s the final run along the Bruce Highway into Cairns, where we settle in for the night — five days and 2,675 km from Darwin — ready for the next phase of the journey and the Cape York H.O.G. Rally.
