Javed Ali, who had settled in London with his wife Maryam and their two young children, returned to India to celebrate Eid and visit his ailing mother, but all four died in the Ahmedabad plane crash. DNA tests confirmed their identities, and now grief-stricken relatives have come to the Civil Hospital to collect the remains for last rites. Unable to view the badly damaged bodies, they are demanding only their kin be handed over. The family has not yet informed Javed’s mother, a heart patient, fearing the news will be too much for her to bear. “We don’t know how to tell her,” they said, still clinging to the unbearable truth that no one from the family survived.
