An 8th century statue of the goddess Chamunda is preserved in the Odisha State Museum in Bhubaneswar:
The statue depicts the goddess wearing a necklace of skulls and bone ornaments. Chamunda is a fierce goddess who is known to have killed the demons Chanda and Munda, which is how she got her name. She is also the goddess of death and time.
Chamunda is one of the chief Yoginis, a group of Tantric goddesses who serve the warrior goddess Parvati. She is closely associated with Kali, another fierce aspect of Parvati.
Bhubaneswar also has an 8th century temple dedicated to Chamunda called Baitala Deula. The temple is built in the Khakara style of Kalinga architecture.
