STRATEGY & NAVIGATION: Session #1 of Product Development + Design Thinking workshop series

This session was created for FIRST Tech Challenge and FIRST Robotics Competition teams in California, and is part of a a virtual workshop series to support teams through the FIRST Innovation Challenge, presented by Qualcomm.

Session #1, Strategy & Navigation, is brought to you by FIRST California in partnership with Qualcomm and Stanford d.school.

In this interactive workshop, combining instruction and hands-on breakout sessions, we evaluated the new FIRST Innovation Challenge criteria and then dove into the process of identifying opportunities to innovate.

The workshop series kicked off with opening remarks from Aine Shivnan, inventor and Vice President of Program Management at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. Next, we explored Design Thinking and dove into Empathy and Define modes, presented by Hasso Plattner Institute of Design at Stanford (aka d.school). Then, we learned about key elements of a Problem Statement and get an introduction to Intellectual Property.

At the end (time stamp 1:05:15) we had a rich Q&A with Aine Shivnan about innovation at Qualcomm.
