Properties of ionic compound

1.     Ionic compounds occur in the solid state due to strong inter ionic forces of attraction. For example- NaCl

2.     They have high melting point and boiling point due to strong force of attraction between ions.

3.     Ionic compound don’t conduct electricity in solid state. But they conduct electricity in the molten as well as in solution. This is because in solid, ions are not free in the solid state but in molten as well as in solution, ions are free to move.

4.     Ionic compound, being polar nature dissolve in polar solvents like water.
