Hi, my name is Khan Owais Akmal and I'm a palliative care physician at UVA Health. I work with anybody who has a chronic life-limiting condition. This can be heart failure. This can be cancers. This can be dementia. This can be any longstanding neuromuscular disorders.

I can work with patients at any point in their disease, not when they're at the end. If they're having stressors in terms of remembering to take their medications, or having symptoms or anxiety related to being in the hospital more often.

Patients can expect to have someone who listens, who takes time to just figure out who they are beyond their medical problems, and who is able to give them information in the most straightforward way possible. My biggest passion is being an advocate for patients and being able to help them along in any way, shape or form.
