Story:

Rebellious, fourteen-year-old Wolfgang is pushed off to the youth care home of Freistatt social welfare district in 1968. Here he should be “educated” to become a decent boy. Wolfgang puts up a determined resistance against the brutal working conditions and the perfidious education methods of the warden; he doesn’t allow them to get him down. But how long can he still manage to resist the system of violence and oppression without brutalizing himself?
A movie based on true stories, about the merciless fight of a boy to save the last bit of humanity and dignity in an oppressive system of society.

Awards:

The screenplay was awarded with the German screenplay Award 2013 and won the screenplay Award 2012 on Emden film festival. The project was realized co-production with SWR, SR, ARTE, WDR, funded by MFG Baden-Württemberg, FFHSH, Nordmedia, FFA and BKM.
Louis Hofmann wins the Bavarian Film Award as Best Newcoming Actor for Freistatt. At Max Ophüls Preis the film wins the Award of the Youth Jury and the Audience Award. Edition Salzgeber starts the film in German cinemas in summer 2015.
