Iowa weather LIVE: Above-average temperatures this week could bring rain and snow chances

A cold front passed over last night and we will feel the cooling north breeze through the rest of the day. We will not be as warm as we were yesterday with highs this afternoon staying in the 40s, and wind chills in the 30s. Winds will stay in the 10 to 20 mph range with gusts as strong as 25 mph. Temperatures will stay above average through the rest of the week with some rain snow mix chances.

Wednesday will stay clear with calm conditions. That will allow temperatures to climb back near 50, but expect a chilly morning with lows in the 20s. Thursday will bring our next disturbance that will favor the northern half of the state. Thursday early morning will have a chance for rain snow mix for areas north of I-80 with the better snow chance north of highway 30. Most, if not all, of this will melt as it hits the ground and even have some rain mixed in potentially. There will not be much in the form of accumulations with this next system. The cooler areas could get a wet dusting, but temperatures will climb in the afternoon which will melt anything that can actually stick. The metro will see a better chance of a rain snow mix that melts on contact as temperatures are mainly expected to stay above freezing during this time.

The system will push out and we will dry up for Thursday afternoon and for the rest of the week. Friday and the weekend will warm up with highs I the 50s. We are keeping an eye on a system trying to creep in from the south on Valentines Day, but as of now it is only looking like a slight chance for some rain. The warmth is expected to continue into next week with more 50s and possibly 60s.
