metal excess defect due to anionic vacancy: when crystal of NaCl are heated in presence of atmosphere of sodium, the sodium atoms deposited on the surface of NaCl crystal. The Cl- ions diffuse to the surface of the crystal and combine with Na atoms to give NaCl. before this happen sodium atom loses electron and that electron occupy anion vacancy, and called as F-centre. the electron present in F centre absorb energy from the visble light and get excited and imparts yellow colour to the crystal when comes to ground state
