Abstract: Affine W-algebras can be constructed using vertex algebras. In this talk we will discuss basic properties of vertex algebras and define Heisenberg, Kac-Moody and Virasoro vertex algebras. We will also define Zhu algebra, a certain construction connecting finite and affine W-algebras.
