The Mercedes-Benz W113 is an iconic two-seat luxury roadster/coupé produced from 1963 to 1971. It famously replaced both the high-end 300 SL and the more affordable 190 SL.
The W113 is best known by its affectionate nickname, the "Pagoda," due to its distinctive, slightly concave removable hardtop, designed by Béla Barényi for improved structural integrity and interior space. This unique roofline sets it apart visually from its contemporaries.
It was considered advanced for its time, incorporating safety features like a rigid passenger cell with crumple zones (a first for a sports car), fuel-injected inline-six engines, and disc brakes. Models included the 230 SL, 250 SL, and 280 SL, each offering increasing power. The W113 perfectly blended elegant styling, comfortable touring capabilities, and solid performance, making it a highly desirable classic today.
