Elizabeth Báthory was a real Hungarian noblewoman whose case is one of the most disturbing criminal investigations in European history. Testimonies from servants, court officials, and nobles were officially recorded during a royal investigation ordered by King Matthias II.
Historical documents confirm that multiple young servant girls were tortured and killed inside her castles. Due to her noble status, Elizabeth was never publicly tried or executed. Instead, she was confined and sealed inside a small room of her own castle, where she remained until her death in 1614.
Stories claiming that Elizabeth bathed in blood to remain young, possessed supernatural powers, or became a wandering spirit are later legends added centuries after her death. These elements are not supported by court records and belong to folklore rather than documented history.
