SYNOPSIS

A Good Woman explores the lives of three women in the midst of a changing Yangon. Through the eyes of a budding journalist, a contemporary artist, and a women’s rights activist, the documentary is a composition of perspectives stitched together in an episodic format to paint a portrait of womanhood. It is one that wrestles with the tensions that come with being at the confluence of change - the past and the future, tradition and modernity, the lessons that we have learnt, and those we have to unlearn.

ABOUT

Directors Hnin Darle Lin and Charmaine Poh came to us with a proposal to shoot a documentary about what it is like to be a women in current Myanmar society. As new filmmakers with a great sense of social justice and equality, they wanted to explore and learn from three strong Myanmar women - a journalist, a performance artist and a women's rights activist - living and working in Yangon.

As an effort to promote and nurture young filmmakers, we paired up these new filmmakers with our junior team in this project. Khun Minn Ohn (Kings N Queens) and Kyawt Thiri (Ah Yone) joined the team to bring this documentary to life. A Good Woman premiered at Human Rights Human Dignity International Film Festival (Yangon) in 2016.
