(21 Nov 2015) President of the European Council Donald Tusk said on Saturday that "effective border control is absolutely essential" as thousands of migrants were crossing the borders daily.
After meeting with Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic in Belgrade, Tusk said that due to the lack of effective controls on the external border between the EU and Turkey, some countries in the region were strengthening controls at their borders.
Tusk also said that "it would be better for Europe" if the union would find "effective" ways to protect its external borders together.
He added that FRONTEX will be deployed to the Greek - Macedonian border in order to reduce the flow of migrants.
