Internationale Opendeur marinebasis Zeebrugge op 9 en 10 juli

Tijdens de 31ste editie van de Internationale Opendeur laat de Marine zowel haar geschiedenis als haar toekomst zien. We belichten het ontstaan van de Marine in de thematentoonstelling rond '70 jaar Royal Navy Section Belge'. In dit kader zal de Brit John Shannon de opendeur plechtig openen. Hij is voormalig tweede commandant van de HMS Quentin Roosevelt, het allereerste trainingsschip waarop Belgische rekruten van de Royal Navy Section Belge een opleiding kregen. De Britse defensieattaché, Captain Peter Lambourn en Flottieljeadmiraal Michel Hofman, de kersverse Commandant van de Marinecomponent, zullen de heer Shannon vergezellen.

Maar liefst 15 schepen zijn open voor het publiek. Met de gloednieuwe patrouilleschepen RMNS Bir Anzarame (Marokko) en P05 Skundra (Letland) hebben we twee primeurs. Een andere blikvanger is de Amerikaanse destroyer USS Ramage. Daarnaast zijn er nog schepen uit Algerije, Duitsland, Frankrijk en Nederland. De Belgische vloot is vertegenwoordigd door het fregat Leopold I, de mijnenjagers Crocus en Primula, het commando- en logistiek steunschip Godetia, het kustwachtschip Stern en het oceanografisch onderzoeksschip Belgica. Alle schepen zijn open voor het publiek, telkens van 10.30 u. tot 12.00 u. en van 13.30 tot 17.30 u.

De marinebasis zelf viert haar 35ste verjaardag en is op 9 en 10 juli gratis toegankelijk van 10.00 u. tot 18.00 u. Er zijn tal van tentoonstellingen, demonstraties, reddingssimulaties met de Seaking, concerten, kinderanimatie, enz... Behalve de Marine exposeren ook heel wat partners (kustwacht, politie, douane, zeevisserij, de andere componenten, het informatiecentrum van Defensie, petersteden, maritieme verenigingen, enz...). De NMBS en De Lijn bieden speciale evenemententickets aan.

Open international naval base at Zeebrugge in September and July 10
