Did you know you can explore some of Dublin’s most iconic buildings and hidden gems for free? This episode of Dublin Diaries takes you around the city during Open House Dublin, an annual event in mid-October when many landmarks open their doors to the public. No entry fee required!

🍳 BRUNCH AT BLAS CAFÉ
We kicked off the morning at Blas Café, a true hidden brunch spot in Dublin. The food was gorgeous, flavourful dishes, great coffee, and a spacious interior filled with beautiful art pieces. I loved that every flower had a name. It’s a spot I’d definitely recommend if you’re after good food and calm vibes away from the city buzz.

☕ COFFEE AT VICE COFFEE INC.
Since we still had time, we headed to Vice Coffee Inc., one of Dublin’s top coffee spots. I tried their Vietnamese coffee, which was absolutely delicious. They also sell beans and even coffee cocktails. I was this close to grabbing an espresso martini to go.

🏛️ GPO (GENERAL POST OFFICE)
Next stop, one of Dublin’s most iconic landmarks, the General Post Office (GPO). It’s not just a post office but a building deeply tied to Irish history as the headquarters of the 1916 Easter Rising. During the guided tour, we explored many parts that are usually off-limits to the public, including the dome, upper offices, and the balcony overlooking the foyer. The intricate harp on the railing, the ornate lamp, and all the floral details were just stunning. While much of the building was rebuilt after the Rising, some original wooden doors and brass railings remained.
At the end of the tour, we also visited the GPO Museum, which beautifully tells the story of the Easter Rising through interactive displays, objects, and animations. Highly recommended for anyone interested in Irish history.

🍵 MATCHA AND ALMOND CINNAMON BUN AT THE ARKET STORE
On my way to the next stop, I popped into the new Arket store. Not for shopping this time, but for a matcha and an almond cinnamon bun. Both were delicious, and the atmosphere was bright and welcoming.

📚 NATIONAL LIBRARY OF IRELAND - READING ROOM AND YEATS EXHIBITION
My final visit was to the National Library of Ireland, which can be visited for free all year round. The library is a masterpiece. Colourful mosaic floors, stained glass windows, and a serene reading room with its green lamps and wooden shelves. There’s even a Lego model of the library near the entrance, decorated with pumpkins and spiders for Halloween. Sooooo cute! The dome ceiling painted in shades of blue and green gives the space such a calming vibe, perfect for book lovers and history fans alike.
