鼓楼和钟楼位于老北京中轴线的最北端，始建于1270年代。鼓楼周边的大街有四个路段，分别为地安门外大街、鼓楼西大街、鼓楼东大街和旧鼓楼大街。其中地安门外大街和鼓楼东大街是老北京最繁华的商业区域，许多老字号商店与各种各样老北京小吃，两旁分布着四通八达的胡同，里面有众多的历史遗迹，即古朴厚重又有时尚的气息。
The drum tower and bell tower are located at the northernmost end of the old Beijing central axis. They were built in the 1270s. The main street around Gulou has four sections, namely di'anmenwai street, Gulou West Street, Gulou East Street and old Gulou Street. Among them, di'anmenwai street and Gulou East Street are the most prosperous commercial areas in old Beijing. Many time-honored shops and all kinds of snacks in old Beijing are distributed with all kinds of alleys on both sides. There are many historical sites in them, that is, simple, heavy and fashionable.
