On the 26th January 2025, the E-Spine changes for Bus Connects were implemented across a large part of Dublin (and part of Wicklow). This saw changes to bus routes in Greystones, Bray, Dun Laoghaire, Ballymun and elsewhere. The main change was the actual "E-Spine" which saw the end of routes 46A, 145 and 155, and them being replaced by new cross-city routes E1 and E2.

Route 145 is the second newest of the three routes that ended. The original route 145 started in 1995 and was a local route in Bray, serving the Palermo estate on the northern side of the town, and Ballywaltrim and Kilmacanogue on the southern side. It was operated by minibuses under the Dublin Bus Localink brand. The route underwent a massive transformation in 2004 when it became a radial route from Kilmacanogoue to Dublin city centre going via Bray, Shankill and the Stillorgan QBC. For all intents and purposes it became a new route, rather than a modification to the old route. In 2010 the 145 was merged with route 92 to terminate at Heuston Station instead of Mountjoy Square. In 2015 the southern terminus was cut back from Kilmacanogue to Ballywaltrim.

The 145 was a frequent route, operating about 6 times an hour. When it started in 2004 it was allocated RV Class (Volvo Olympian) buses. After the Heuston extension it was allocated VT Class (Enviro 500) buses, but for the last few years it has mainly been either SG Class or GT Class (Wrights Gemini) buses. Dublin Bus operated this route out of Donnybrook Garage.
