I can't believe we're looking at the outer burnt up crust of a meteorite that flew through Earth's atmosphere at extreme speeds.

Atoms in the atmosphere (O, N, H, and others) create friction for the the meteorite as it speeds past them. It would be cool to see a meteorite that never entered the atmosphere! But, how would we ever get one of those?! ;)
