Описание: The pond named Breeches Pond, was constructed to provide a head of water to power a corn mill. The steep banks were landscaped from local clay and a brick dam and sluice was constructed at the southern end. The pond also flowed into another Pond called the Tarn Pond which powered two more mills further down the hill, The first mill was on Cranbrook Road, named Watermill Farm, or Brattle House, and further downstream another dam was built to provide a head of water for Ashbourne Mill. In the early 1970s the Breeches dam collapsed and the landowner didn't want to repair it and left it to drain, and what you see today is all that remains. Ashbourne Mill is still complete and looks to be undergoing some preservation, and is a few yards from Rolvenden Station. In the maps you can see the Railway has not yet been constructed so the sites were still being used prior to 1903.
