The flexibility of this motorcycle is even more astounding when the trail narrows to single track with rocks to avoid, creek crossings and negotiating terrain at a snail's pace.

Riding Eldorado Canyon near Dayton, Nevada confirmed the agility of our dual-sport converted XR650R. Honda's secret lies in the balanced chassis and proven Pro-Link suspension tuning. I rode the entire route without touching a foot down while moving, standing on the pegs like a trials rider when necessary. The bike never bottomed on obstacles or trail debris.

The superior bottom end torque of this single-cylinder engine contributes to the bike's control. A liquid cooled XR650R is unlike heavyweight ADV bikes with engines imported from sport touring platforms. While the typical high performance ADV has gobs of mid-range and higher rpm power, there's less usable "stump-pulling" power than an XR650R. The XR650R is a thumper, purpose built for enduro riding and racing.
