Описание: A new true crime documentary is drawing major attention after helping solve the decades-old murder of a gay porn star. My Brother’s Killer, directed by Rachel Mason, revisits the 1990 killing of performer Billy London—a case once dubbed the gay Black Dahlia. The project began while Mason was making the documentary Circus of Books. An old article about a murder in London led her to work with cold-case detectives and amateur sleuths to investigate the unsolved crime within Los Angeles’ gay adult film scene. Mason said her interest grew from realizing how historically significant the industry was. She shared, “Before the 1980s you didn’t see gay lives represented on television…Porn was one of the only places where those lives existed visually. So I started thinking: there must be incredible stories buried in that world. Billy’s story turned out to be one of them.” Archival footage from early ’90s gay adult industry events helped investigators identify a suspect. The filmmaker eventually interviewed the suspected killer, DarraLynn Madden, in prison, where Madden confessed on camera. Mason said the film ultimately aimed to give closure to London’s loved ones. “Billy’s family never had real closure… After seeing the film, they told me they finally felt they had answers.” My Brother’s Killer is currently premiering at the South by Southwest.
