Roberts brothers win 'Family Recipe Showdown' with nostalgic dishes

The Roberts brothers celebrated their win with a watch party at Ceccoli Vineyards in Winnie, where they paired their dishes with local wines. "We gave them a menu several weeks ago, which kept growing because we were we'd talk back and forth, hey, let's do this and let's add this," said one of the brothers. "We sent them the recipes or the food items, and he paired it with wines that he had, but recommendations, it was a good time."

The competition was judged by Academy Award-winning actress Octavia Spencer, renowned New Orleans chef Duck Chase, and Grammy Award-winning artist Kandi Burruss. The brothers faced a tense moment when they realized their pork chop was a double cut, which posed a challenge with the time constraints. "We would have started the pork chop earlier when we unwrapped it," they said.

Despite the challenges, the brothers' pork chops with sweet potato fries won over the judges. "The dish we cooked was actually Doug's dish, which is kind of even more intimidating because he's a real chef," they said. The brothers also credited their bacon jam as a standout element, with one competitor remarking, "We went with Mary Had a Little Lamb. They went with bacon. Yeah. And now we're going home."

Looking ahead, the Roberts brothers plan to continue cooking as a hobby and may explore opportunities such as a YouTube channel or participating in barbecue competitions. "I doubt that it will ever be a full-time profession for either of us, but we have fun with it," they said.

The brothers' success on the show has brought pride to their community, and they remain open to future culinary endeavors.
