🧵 Sericulture is the rearing of silkworms for silk production. The best quality silk, called mulberry silk, is produced by Bombyx mori. India has a long history of silk production, and many families depend on it for their livelihood. It requires skill, care, and protection from diseases and predators to ensure good quality silk.

🌳 Lac Culture involves the cultivation of lac produced by the insect Trachardia lacca. This insect secretes a natural resin used to make bangles, toys, wood polish, inks, and more. India produces about 85% of the world’s lac, making it very important for farmers and the economy.
